Relamping / Retrofitting streetlights

Modernising the authentic

Retrofitting is an ideal way of preserving the heritage of Switzerland's towns and cities.

What is relamping or retrofitting?

This involves replacing old or obsolete components with more recent ones, without changing the original function of the object. In practice, for us, the idea is to keep the original luminaire and replace the obsolete bulbs (mercury, sodium, fluorescent) with LED lighting, which uses less energy.

In this way, it is possible to retain the original structure of the lamp without having to replace it entirely. In addition to the obvious concern for the environment, by reducing waste, this approach is also part of a heritage conservation movement. Retrofitting a lamp means preserving the work carried out years ago by a local craftsman and ensuring that part of a region's heritage is not lost to a new light point from a factory in another country. Think in particular of medieval towns and villages, where lanterns and other lights give the place the atmosphere and appeal of another era. A charm that would be altered by replacing the lighting with new infrastructure.

The advantages of LED lamps

With a life of around 100,000 hours, a luminous efficacy of 120 lm/w to 150 lm/w, several colour temperatures, reduced light pollution and the possibility of being combined with motion detectors, LED lamps offer a host of advantages that more than justify replacing old components with them.

Making something new out of something old, a trend that's becoming increasingly popular as a way of preserving part of your history and limiting the amount of bulky waste you have to dispose of. It's a great way to preserve your cultural and environmental heritage.
