Relamping / Retrofitting street lamps
Modernizing the authentic
Retrofitting is an ideal way of preserving the heritage of Switzerland's towns and communities.
What is relamping or retrofitting?
This involves replacing old or obsolete components with newer ones, without modifying the object's original function. In practice, for us, the idea is to keep the original luminaire, and replace the obsolete bulbs (mercury, sodium, fluorescent) with energy-efficient LED lighting.
In this way, it is possible to retain the original structure of the lamp without having to replace it entirely. Beyond the obvious concern for ecology and waste reduction, this approach is also part of a heritage conservation movement. Retrofitting allows us to preserve work carried out years ago by a local craftsman, and to ensure that part of a region's heritage doesn't disappear in favor of a new light point from a delocalized factory. We're thinking in particular of medieval towns/villages, where lanterns and other lights give the place the ambiance and appeal of another era. A charm that would be altered by replacing lighting with new infrastructure.
The advantages of LED lamps
A life of around 100,000 hours, luminous efficacy from 120 lm/w to 150 lm/w, several color temperatures, reduced light pollution, possibility of being combined with motion detectors... LED lamps offer numerous advantages that more than justify replacing old components with them.
Making something new out of something old, a trend that's becoming ever more topical, allows you to preserve a part of your history and limit the disposal of bulky waste. A great way to preserve your cultural and environmental heritage.
